This course provides an overview of 3D concrete printing technology and its application in
construction. Students will learn about the basic principles of 3D printing and how they are applied
to the construction industry. The course covers the different types of 3D concrete printers, their
advantages, limitations and how to operate them.
The course includes an in-depth analysis of the materials used for 3D printing, including
cementitious mixtures, aggregates, and additives. Students will also learn about the design
principles of 3D printing and how to generate 3D models and digital files that are suitable for 3D
printing.
The course explores the different applications of 3D printing in construction, including the creation
of complex structural and architectural elements. The course will also cover the potential of 3D
printing to reduce material waste, labour cost and construction time, and the challenges and
opportunities for implementing 3D printing technology in the construction industry.
The course includes hands-on activities, where students will have the opportunity to design, print,
and test their own 3D printed structures. By the end of the course, students will have gained an
understanding of 3D concrete printing technology, its potential in construction, and the skills
required to design and operate a 3D concrete printer.
